Culture Task Group

The primary purpose of the Cultural Task Group is to maximise the contribution of culture to Liverpool’s regeneration and the delivery of the city’s Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS).

The group develops effective relationships between Liverpool First Strategic Issue Partnerships (SIPs), including public, private, voluntary and community service providers and other cultural stakeholders.

It oversees the development, implementation and performance management of the Liverpool First Cultural Strategy, through monitoring the impact and outcomes, ensuring clear lines of accountability.

To aid in the delivery of the cultural strategy, along with elements of the SCS and Local Area Agreement (LAA), a cultural action plan has been developed. This plan has been approved by the Executive Board, subject to comments received by board members.

The group promotes the quality and sustainability of the cultural sector, builds on its current strengths and realises opportunities for development and investment. It is also the voice of the cultural sectors in Liverpool adding weight, authority and validity to their aspirations.

The group also contributes to Liverpool First’s vision for the city and the delivery of the SCS and LAA.

How does the task group work?

The task group comprises 17 members, who come from a range of city organisations from LIPA to Liverpool Cathedral.

It meets once every quarter and meeting minutes will be posted on this site as and when they are made available.

Impacts 08

Impacts 08Following a five year research project looking into the economic and social impacts European Capital of Culture had on Liverpool during its tenure in 2008, the results of the Impacts 08 team have been released. Impacts 08 provides a unique insight into the economic and cultural benefits Liverpool has seen since the city won the bid to host European Capital of Culture in 2003. The research was commissioned by Liverpool City Council and conducted jointly by University of Liverpool and John Moore's University.

On Friday 12 March the 08 Impacts team, led by Dr Beatriz Garcia gave an overview of the findings of the report. Guests were then invited to attend workshops and discussion panels to understand fully the key aspects of the research on the city and its national/international reputation.
