Community Cohesion and Equalities Task Group
The purpose of the Community Cohesion and Equalities Task Group is to address cohesion and equalities issues from a strategic partnership perspective.
This Task Group forms an integral part of the performance management framework of Liverpool First, and through the Executive Advisory Group it drives the strategic agenda on city-wide community cohesion and equalities matters.
The remit of the group will include (but not be limited to):
Understanding the national and regional agendas, create effective policies and strategies to tackle local issues and achieve best value through:

Maintaining awareness of the national policy agenda on equalities being developed by the Commission for Equalities & Human Rights

Maintaining awareness of the national policy agenda on community cohesion
-
Overseeing the development of the Partnership’s Community Cohesion Action Plan, reflecting the national/regional and local cohesion agenda
-
Developing joint planning frameworks, joint targets and improved joint working with strategic partners
-
Streamlining and consolidating partnership delivery and governance arrangements
-
Ensuring that the equalities agenda is consistent and co-ordinated with Liverpool First strategic partners
-
Providing strategic support to partners in delivery of the objectives as laid out in the Community Cohesion Action Plan

Assist in performance management of the Local Area Agreement, Sustainable Community Strategy, Local Development Framework, City Employment Strategy, and other key policies and strategies (such as the Liverpool Compact) in relation to equalities and community cohesion.

Recommend outcomes and priorities for key strategies

Provide regular monitoring of partnership activity & reporting on progress.
Who makes up membership of the Task Group?
Task Group members are predominantly business/operation managers or equivalent of partner agencies with the authority to make decisions and influence their organisations’ contribution to the achievement of Community Cohesion Task Group objectives.
Membership consist of one representative from each of the Liverpool First Key partner areas:

Work program
The Community Cohesion & Equalities Task Group will provide regular reports and recommendations to the Executive Advisory Group. The Task Group also ensures that the five objectives within the Community Cohesion Action Plan are achieved:

Building a sense of local pride and encouraging a sense of belonging

Promoting greater knowledge, trust and understanding between different communities

Engaging and supporting young people

Addressing social conflicts and tensions

Mainstreaming community cohesion.
Community Cohesion and Equalities Strategy
The Liverpool First Community Cohesion and Equalities Strategy/Action plan 2009-11 has just been approved by the Executive Board, subject to comments received by board members.

Task Group meetings
Meetings will take place every 12 weeks, but additional meetings may be called as necessary to fit in with work programme deadlines. Annual open meetings will be held to provide updates/celebrate achievements and consult on strategy to a wider stakeholder group.
