Neighbourhood Renewal Fund

Neighbourhood Renewal Fund

The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund provides deprived areas with additional funding to tackle issues such as health, unemployment, crime and poor education.

It also encourages local service providers such as the council, the NHS, the police and the fire service to use their own mainstream resources in a more innovative way to deliver long term goals.

Liverpool is one of 88 local authority areas that have received NRF funding. Over a six year period (2001-2007) Liverpool received £167million.  In July 2004, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister announced that NRF funding would continue until March 2008. The most recent allocation for 2007-2008 amounts to £31.1million.

NRF is money that is given specifically for the purpose of tackling deprivation in deprived neighbourhoods. The fund helps us to reach a number of nationally and locally-set targets (called Public Service Agreement Targets) that relate to education, employment, crime, health and housing.  It also allows us to do other things to improve the quality of life of residents in the most deprived neighbourhoods.

The NRF Programme is managed on behalf of Liverpool First by the Programmes Team within the Regeneration Portfolio at Liverpool City Council. The role of the team is to manage, administer and monitor all aspects of the NRF programme, and provide reports on NRF allocations and progress to the Liverpool First Executive Board
