Multi Area Agreement
Partners from across the Liverpool City Region have committed to working together, and together with Government, to make the most of economic opportunities for the City Region, as well as tackling some of its key challenges.
By working to a common set of goals the Liverpool City Region Multi Area Agreement (MAA) will help the Liverpool City Region to continue to compete for jobs and investment and create a 'thriving international City Region'.
The Agreement also means that the City Region will work more closely with Government to minimise the adverse impact of the current economic downturn as well as maximising the longer term ambitions of improving the economic and social prospects of the area.
The Liverpool City Region MAA covers the boroughs of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral. The combined population of this area is around 1.5 million people.
Four Platforms of the MAA
The MAA is made up of four platforms, each setting our proposals about how the City Region will work together in each of these areas. These four platforms are Economy, Employment and Skills, Housing and Transport. These are supported by a Story of Place document that sets out the key opportunities and challenges within the Economy.
Status of the MAA
Phase 1 of the Liverpool City Region Multi Area Agreement (MAA) was signed on 12th January 2009 by each of the City Region's Council Leaders at a meeting with the Prime Minister in Downing Street. This phase included the Story of Place and the Employment and Skills Platform.
Phase 2 of the MAA includes an updated Story of Place, together with more detailed proposals to address the key challenges and opportunities relating to economy, housing and transport within the Liverpool City Region. This was signed by Rt. Hon. John Healey MP, Minister for Housing and Planning, and Phil Woolas MP, Minister for the North West at a ceremony with Liverpool City Region leaders at Tate Liverpool on 15th September 2009.
