Children and Young People

Our vision is that children and young people will be supported to achieve their full potential as healthy, safe, well educated and positive citizens ready for the 21st century.

Children and young people shall be treated with respect and expected to respect others. They will be more directly involved in decision making about the things which affect their lives and in helping to promote a positive image for themselves and their peers. Opportunities will be offered for involvement in the design and delivery of the LAA.

Children and young people will be encouraged to make a positive contribution towards building vibrant local communities through increased involvement in planning exercises, school refurbishment and rebuilding programmes and housing developments.  We want them to learn how to take advantage of community based opportunities for themselves.

Liverpool will remain a city of opportunity for all where creativity, enterprise and innovation are encouraged. The provision of high quality and impartial information, advice and guidance will raise the aspirations of all young people and will ensure that they reach their full potential.

Joint commissioning, supported by pooled resources, will ensure that those best able to provide the right packages of services can do so. The outcomes are mutually reinforcing. Children and young people learn and thrive when they are healthy, safe and engaged; and the evidence shows clearly that educational achievement is the most effective route out of poverty. Improving outcomes also involves narrowing the gap between disadvantaged children and their peers.

The Children and Young People’s block links with other blocks of the Local Area Agreement through its cross cutting themes of Culture and Civil Renewal. It also links into shared aims of regenerating neighbourhoods and improving opportunities for all.

We recognise that we have a multi agency responsibility to direct resources better to support our priorities and to cut out duplication and waste and to do this we shall move towards a much stronger joint commissioning approach over the next few years through the Liverpool First for Children and Young People’s Partnership.
