Community Strategy

What is a Community Strategy?

We are committed to working with local people to improve our City.  We want to:

  • give people more say in the services they receive
  • improve local areas and quality of life for people; and
  • improve the way local councils and other organisations plan for the future.

We list how we intend to do this in a document called the "Sustainable Communities Strategy".  By law, every local authority needs to develop a Sustainable Communities Strategy, and Liverpool first has been given the job of producing this document for Liverpool.

Our current strategy runs from 2005-2008, and we are in the process of final consultation on the new strategy.

Liverpool's Sustainable Community Strategy 2005-2008

The strategy enforces our vision - to become "a Premier European City" - by building a more competitive economy, developing healthier, safer, more inclusive communities, and enhancing individual life chances.  In other words, we want to help people make the best of their lives and what life has to offer them.

To achieve this, we have five aspirational targets:

  • To create an inclusive European Renaissance City by 2010;
  • To be a 'Business-Friendly' city in 2008;
  • To meet national targets for schools, qualifications and employment by 2008;
  • To reduce poor health and preventable death towards the national average by 2010;
  • To grow the population by the year 2013.

We would like to hear your comments on the vision and our aspirations as listed on this page.  If you would like to comment, please fill in our interactive form, Put Liverpool First.
