23 July 2010 - Liverpool hosts Health Inequalities conference at World Expo
ON Monday 26 July Liverpool First is hosting a programme of conferences and in-depth discussions around the subject of Health and Wellbeing at World Expo, Shanghai.
It is hoped that this event will allow us to further develop our best practice in this complex area with our domestic and international partners.
The programme will take place at the Liverpool Pavilion in the Urban Best Practice Area at the World Expo in Shanghai between 26 and 29 July 2010. Councillor Jane Corbett, Liverpool City Council, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services with a special interest in reducing health inequalities and Robert Corbett, City Treasurer, Liverpool City Council will be your hosts for the events.
We have a number of expert guest speakers leading the conference and workshops.
- Dr Alex Scott-Samuel is a leading expert on equity and impact assessment who has advised the UK Parliament on health equity, is a member of the Gender Equity Knowledge Network of the World Health Organisation's Commission on Social Determinants of Health and was instrumental in developing health impact assessments in the UK.
- Ruth Passman is a Senior Health Policy Adviser working for the Department of Health in the North West of England. Ruth will present her work on the co-benefits of UK-China ‘Better City, Better Life’ collaboration both during and after the World Exposition. An additional focus will be brought to sharing innovation on Climate Change and carbon emissions work in the North West of England health economy.
- Dr. Sandra Davies is an Associate Director of Public Health for Liverpool Primary Care Trust. She is responsible for the delivery of strategic health improvement programmes across Liverpool and will talk about effective partnership working to reduce inequalities.
This is an opportunity for delegates to learn from international experts and to share best practice in the field of health, wellbeing and inequalities with international colleagues.
We have invited representatives from local authorities and governments to attend these sessions.
You will not be able to gain access to the pavilion unless you have registered for a place.
