16 June 2009 - Liverpool to celebrate faith
16 June, 2009 - LCVS
LIVERPOOL'S leading charity organisation is holding an event to celebrate the importance of faith and its impact on the city’s population.
To celebrate its centenary year, Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services (LCVS) is working in partnership with Liverpool Faith Network to organise ‘Liverpool Celebrates Faith’, which will recognise how faith organisations promote community cohesion in the city.
The event will take place at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Thursday 2 July and entrance is free. Between 1pm and 4pm, ‘Bringing Communities Together’ will showcase the work of the city’s faith groups through a variety of exhibitions and activities.
From 6pm until 7.30pm, ‘Celebrating Faith’ will be an evening of presentations from leaders of faith, including Archbishop Patrick Kelly, The Very Reverend Justin Welby, Dean of Liverpool, and Dr Shiv Pande, the Chair of Liverpool Faith Network.
There will also be musical and dance displays and a showing of the Faith Network’s new DVD. In addition, LCVS is running a competition throughout June for primary schools in the Liverpool area.
The competition, entitled ‘I Believe’, is asking children to draw a picture that best represents what they believe in. All drawings will be displayed at the Anglican Cathedral, with winners receiving book tokens. Schools are invited to bring children along to experience the event.
Clare Beavan, Philanthropy Development Manager at LCVS, said: “We believe that by getting children involved in the event we can help them experience different religions and cultures. Entrance is free so please come along and learn about how ‘Liverpool Celebrates Faith’, and its work in bringing communities and people together.”
Archbishop Patrick Kelly said: “Through serving as the Chair of Nugent Care and working with many other charities, I have been privileged to become ever more aware of LCVS and its good work. I am delighted to be involved with such an inclusive and unique event.”
