Councillor Gary Millar, Executive Member for Enterprise and Tourism who also chairs Liverpool First Culture Task Group, said it was important those who were chosen had a "passion for culture".

He added: "We hope to hear from people about how the experience of Culture in 2008 and '09 has touched individuals - and how they as cultural champions can inspire their communities.

''It is important we engage with communities so they know what is going on and can provide feedback on our plans for the future. It's important to have cultural conversations at all levels - and the audience is one of the most crucial.

"Culture doesn't just happen in the city centre - it is thriving across all areas of Liverpool - and we need to do more to promote it."

The Community Culture Champions will be required to attend a range of events and compile a "culture blog" about their activities.

They will also be invited to report to neighbourhood committees once a year, and in return they will receive free tickets to culture events.

The positions are open to anyone aged over 16. Download a nomination form below or pick one up at The 08 Place on Whitechapel.
