11 March 2010 - Final RESPECT Week in Everton
The last Respect Week of Action will take place on the week starting Monday 15 March in Everton.
The week of action will see all public and voluntary organisations in the area coming together to clean up grot spots, clear litter, tackle crime and anti social behaviour and provide residents with help finding jobs and training opportunities.
Highlights include a celebration and awards events to showcase the good work of young people at Liverpool Lighthouse on Oakfield Road on Tuesday 16 March.
And there is a chance for teenagers to learn how to DJ with Juice FM presenters from 3-5pm on Sunday 21 March at the Youth Café on Oakfield Road.
Councillor Marilyn Fielding, executive member for safer, stronger communities, said: “Our Respect Weeks of Action are now an integral part of our work to improve life for people in communities right across the city.
“This is not just about tackling crime and grime but also aimed at highlighting the many and varied activities which are taking place every day in the area and giving people assistance to get into work and training.”
It marks the end of the third year of Respect Weeks of Action, which have proved hugely successful in tackling vandalism, litter, fly tipping and truancy - as well as providing education, employment and training opportunities.
There will be high visibility patrols from officers on quad bikes, a mobile police station will tour the area and there will be a host of leisure and sporting activities for young people including parkour/free running, boxing, football, art and drama.
Previous studies have shown that all nine areas which are part of the Weeks of Action have had long term reductions in crime and anti social behaviour – with the number of offences down by up to 26 percent.
Councillor Berni Turner, executive member for the environment, added: “This initiative will make a huge impact on the area and there will be all sorts of activity happening right across both wards.”
